NEW WOMEN'S PROGRAM LAUNCHED
FT. LAUDERDALE,
February 15, 1996
- On
the heels of headline news stories
about women who live for years in
broken relationship, frequently suffering physical and
mental
abuse, a free program open to all, will
be introduced on
March 7, 1996
at the FAU Center of
Broward Community College, 1515 West Commercial Blvd.
A handful of committed women have pooled their resources and energies
to launch
Women's Journey
and open it up to all women in South Florida.
On Thursday, March 7th
from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, an introductory meeting will
be held. The twelve stages of the
program, which was born out of Dr. Ann Lewis'
doctoral dissertation, will be
outlined.
Women will have the opportunity to find
their own life's experiences in the
evening's
discussions.
Women's Journey
is
about every woman and the forces, internal as well as
external, which prevent her
from consciously determining who she is, what she deserves and what she
wants.
The
March 7th meeting is only the beginning. Those who attend are invited to
continue
on in the program, meeting on a regular
basis with Dr. Lewis. Subsequent sessions
will be
announced at the first meeting.
The vision of the core group who are launching
Women's Journey
is
to establish a safe,
free place where women who want
to
understand their own lives more deeply can meet-a
place where they will come away
refreshed, comforted and liberated from the
loneliness of
being lost to themselves.
Out
of the initial group of women who continue on with the
program will emerge its
future leaders who will form groups of their own.
The intention is to make
Women's Journey
available to anyone, regardless of race, creed or sexual orientation.
