Stage 2   AVOIDING THE TRAP

Affirmation:  I will grow to realize that my unique self is not limited by myths of what it means to be feminine.

This stage asks you to think about what it means to be a woman and why we are so limited in our ideas about feminity.  This chapter briefly explores the most crippling myths about what it means to be feminine and, through guided journaling, helps you discover myths that have limited your life and your self-expression.  You learn that limits exist within you and that you can achieve personal freedom only if you journey into the deepest part of yourself.  In this chapter, you will concentrate on how guilt, shame, modesty, self-abandonment and depression have controlled your life and shaped your image of what it means to be a daughter, a wife, a mother, a girlfriend...an "Old Bride."

This stage's journal questions allow your unique Self to emerge by helping you dispel the mythical feminity we all grew up with.  Once you have accomplished this, what it means to be a person becomes primary in your life.  Imagining what your real self is like can be new, liberating, and perhaps frightening territory, but this chapter guides you gently and gradually out of the trap that society has put you in.  You will determine the price you have been paying to fulfill society's prescription for "womanhood." You get your first glimpse at what it would be like to be a "New Bride", and live a life that you shaped to your own needs and desires.
